Surrendering What You Can’t Control

OPENING THOUGHT

If we're honest, most of us like to be in control. We like knowing what's going to happen, how things are going to work out, and what the next step should be. But life has a way of reminding us that not everything is within our power to manage.

There are situations we can't fix, people we can't change, and questions we can't answer. We can spend a lot of time worrying, overthinking, and trying to figure everything out, only to find ourselves exhausted and frustrated. The harder we try to control what belongs in God's hands, the heavier the burden becomes.

Surrender is not giving up. It's not becoming passive or pretending we don't care. Surrender is trusting God with the things we cannot control. It's recognizing that His wisdom is greater than ours, His timing is better than ours, and His ability is far beyond our own.

There is a certain freedom that comes when we stop trying to carry everything ourselves and give them over to Jesus Christ. We may not know how He is going to work things out, but we can know that God is faithful. And sometimes, that's where peace begins.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today I'm bringing You the things I can't control. The situations I've worried about. The people I've tried to help. The problems I've tried to figure out. The outcomes I've been trying to manage.

Lord, if I'm honest, sometimes I carry things You never asked me to carry. I spend time worrying about tomorrow, replaying yesterday, and trying to solve things that are beyond my ability to fix. And all it does is leave me tired.

Father, help me recognize the difference between what You've asked me to do and what I need to place in Your hands. Help me do my part and trust You with the rest. Help me stop taking back the very things I've prayed about.

There are people I care about that I cannot change. There are situations I don't understand. There are doors I cannot open and answers I don't have. But none of those things are beyond You.

Lord, teach me what real surrender looks like. Not just with my words, but with my heart. When I'm tempted to worry, remind me to pray. When I'm tempted to take control, remind me to trust. When I'm tempted to fear the future, remind me that You're already there.

Today, I release my plans, my expectations, my frustrations, and my concerns into Your hands. I choose to trust that You are working even when I can't see it. I choose to trust that You care about the things that concern me. And I choose to trust that Your ways are higher than my ways.

Thank You, Lord, that I don't have to carry the weight of the whole world on my shoulders. Thank You that You are God and I am not. Thank You that Your hands are strong enough to hold the things that feel too heavy for me.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.

Don't stay where you are if God is calling you deeper.

He is ready to meet you right where you are.
