Most people have heard the name Jesus Christ.
Some know Him as a historical figure. Others know Him as a great teacher, a prophet, or the central figure of Christianity. Some have heard about Him their entire lives, yet they still aren't sure who He really is or why He matters so much.
The truth is that no one has ever changed the course of history—or the lives of ordinary people—the way Jesus Christ has. He didn't come simply to start another religion or offer people a better way to live. He came to restore what sin had broken, reveal the heart of the Father, and make it possible for every person to have a relationship with God.
That is why getting to know Jesus Christ changes everything.
He Is the Son of God
Jesus Christ isn't simply a good man or an extraordinary teacher. He is the eternal Son of God who entered our world to accomplish what no one else could ever accomplish.
John tells us that "the Word became human and made his home among us" (John 1:14, NLT). Before He was born in Bethlehem, He existed with the Father. He willingly laid aside the glory of heaven, took on human flesh, and walked among us. He experienced hunger, weariness, rejection, sorrow, temptation, and suffering, yet He never sinned.
Everything Jesus said, everything He did, and every miracle He performed revealed the heart and character of God.
When we look at Jesus Christ, we see exactly what the Father is like.
Jesus wasn't half God and half man. He is fully God and fully man. Because He became one of us, He could stand in our place. Because He is God, His sacrifice was sufficient to pay the debt of sin once and for all. No one else could accomplish what Jesus accomplished because no one else is who Jesus is.

Why Did Jesus Come?
The world didn't simply need better advice.
We needed a Savior.
Sin didn't simply make us imperfect; it separated us from the God who created us. Left to ourselves, we were powerless to bridge that divide. No amount of good works, religious effort, or personal determination could restore what sin had broken. We could never rescue ourselves.
That is why Jesus Christ came.
He willingly gave His life on the cross, took upon Himself the judgment our sins deserved, and rose again in victory over death. The cross was never an accident or a defeat. Jesus willingly laid down His life in loving obedience to the Father, saying, "No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily" (John 10:18, NLT). His resurrection declared that sin had been conquered, death had been defeated, and His work of redemption was complete. Through Him we receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and the gift of eternal life.
Jesus came to do more than rescue us from sin. He came to establish the Kingdom of God—a Kingdom where He restores what sin has broken, transforms lives, and brings people back into the relationship with God for which they were created.
Colossians 1:13–14 (NLT) beautifully describes what Christ has done for us:
“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
Freedom is far more than the absence of guilt. Through Jesus Christ, we have been brought into a completely new relationship with God. We are no longer separated from Him by sin or striving to earn His acceptance. Because of what Christ accomplished, we have peace with God, forgiveness of our sins, and the privilege of approaching our Heavenly Father with confidence. Everything begins with Jesus Christ, because everything God desires to give us comes through Him.
Why Is Jesus Unlike Anyone Else?
History has known many influential leaders, gifted teachers, and remarkable individuals, but there has only ever been one Jesus Christ.
He alone lived a completely sinless life. He alone willingly laid down His life for the sins of the world and took it up again through the power of God. He alone conquered sin and death so that those who place their faith in Him might receive the gift of eternal life. As Jesus declared in John 14:6 (NLT), "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
Jesus Christ never claimed to merely show us the way to God. He declared that He is the way. He didn't simply teach truth; He is the Truth. He didn't come merely to improve our lives; He came to give us His life. No one in history has ever claimed what Jesus claimed—and then backed it up through His sinless life, His sacrificial death, and His bodily resurrection.
"I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me."

Why Can I Trust Him?
Trust is built on character, and no one has ever demonstrated character like Jesus Christ.
Throughout His earthly ministry, He consistently revealed the heart of the Father. Jesus never failed to keep a single promise, never acted out of selfish ambition, never spoke falsely, and never wavered from the Father's Will. Everything about His life revealed the perfect faithfulness of God. He welcomed those who had been rejected, showed compassion to those who were suffering, forgave those burdened by shame and guilt, and extended hope to people who believed their lives could never change. He never turned away anyone who sincerely came to Him.
His promises are trustworthy because His character never changes. Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) reminds us, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." The One who calmed storms, healed the brokenhearted, and gave His life for the world is the same Savior who invites us to trust Him today.
Even when we don't understand what God is doing, we can trust Jesus Christ because He has already demonstrated the depth of His love. Romans 5:8 (NLT) tells us, "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Long before we ever sought Him, He pursued us. Long before we loved Him, He first loved us.
Why Does Knowing Jesus Christ Change Everything?
Knowing Jesus Christ is not only about receiving His forgiveness; it is about surrendering our lives to His leadership. He is not merely a Savior who rescues us—He is the Lord who guides us, transforms us, and teaches us to live according to God's purpose.
As we surrender to Jesus Christ, He continues His work within us. He reshapes our desires, renews our minds, and teaches us to reflect His character in the way we live.
As we come to know Him, He begins changing us from the inside out. Through His Word and the work of the Holy Spirit, our hearts are strengthened, and our lives are gradually transformed. We begin seeing ourselves differently because we understand who we are in Him. We begin viewing others through His compassion instead of through our wounds. We begin facing life's challenges with hope because our confidence rests in His faithfulness rather than our own strength.
Jesus Christ never promised that following Him would remove every difficulty from our lives. He did promise that He would never leave us or forsake us. He walks with us through every season, strengthens us by His Spirit, and faithfully completes the work He has begun within us.
Getting to know Jesus Christ is the greatest invitation any person will ever receive. He is calling us into a life that begins the moment we place our faith in Him, and it continues for all eternity. The more we know Him, the more we discover the love, peace, wisdom, and hope that can only be found in Him. And that is why knowing Jesus Christ changes everything. ■
