Learning to Walk in Freedom

Jesus Christ already paid for our freedom. That part is finished. But learning how to live like we’re free? That’s a process.

Most of us have spent years thinking a certain way, reacting a certain way, and believing things about ourselves that don’t line up with God’s Word. Those patterns don’t disappear overnight. The Holy Spirit patiently begins untangling what years of hurt, fear, and deception have woven together.

As you spend time in God’s Word, He starts showing you things you couldn’t see before. Maybe you’ve believed the lie that you’ll never change. Maybe fear has been making your decisions for years. Maybe you’ve gotten so used to carrying hurt, rejection, anger, or insecurity that it just feels normal now. Then one day, the Holy Spirit puts His finger on it and says, “This right here. This has been holding you back.”

Not to shame you. Not to make you feel guilty. But because He loves you too much to leave you there.

Now you have a decision to make.

Are you going to keep believing what your past has been telling you? Or are you going to believe what God says—even if it feels unfamiliar? Are you going to keep responding the way you’ve always responded? Or are you going to trust God enough to do something different?

That’s what learning to walk in freedom looks like. It’s choosing God’s truth over the thoughts and feelings that have been leading you for years.

It isn’t about trying harder. It isn’t about having more willpower. It’s about saying, “Lord, if Your Word says this is true, then I’m choosing to believe You over my feelings.” That’s faith. Every time you make that choice, you’re learning to walk in the freedom Jesus Christ has already given you.

The beautiful part is you’re not doing this by yourself. The same Holy Spirit who shows you what needs to change is the One who helps you change it. He teaches you. He strengthens you. He reminds you of God’s truth when the old lies come knocking. And before long, you realize you’re not the person you used to be. Not because you fixed yourself, but because you’ve been walking with the One who changes hearts.

Everything begins with humility. Before the Holy Spirit can heal what is hidden, we must be willing to invite Him to reveal it. A humble heart simply says, “Father, show me what is keeping me from fully walking in the freedom Jesus Christ has given me.” God delights in answering prayers like that because they invite Him to continue the transforming work He has already begun.

Ask God to Reveal What May Be Holding You Back

Prayer of Humility

Before the Holy Spirit heals what has been hidden, He lovingly brings it into the light. If you’re ready to invite Him to search your heart, begin with this prayer.
