Marriage begins long before the wedding day. Before God joins two lives together in the covenant of marriage, He lovingly prepares each heart to know Him more deeply, grow in Christ, and develop the character needed to faithfully love and serve another person according to His Will.
Why Prepare Before Marriage?
Many people spend years praying for God to send the right person into their lives. They think about compatibility, shared interests, attraction, financial stability, and the kind of future they hope to build together. While those things have their place, Scripture teaches us to begin somewhere else. Before God prepares us for a lifelong covenant with another person, He first prepares us to walk faithfully with Him. Marriage was never intended to become our identity or our source of fulfillment. Jesus Christ is. The stronger our relationship with Him becomes, the stronger the foundation upon which every other relationship can be built.
God's preparation reaches far deeper than helping us become a better husband or wife. He works within our hearts, revealing areas that still need healing, forgiveness, humility, patience, self-control, wisdom, and spiritual maturity. He lovingly teaches us to surrender our plans, trust His timing, receive correction, and grow into the likeness of His Son. None of this is meant to discourage us. It is evidence of His love. Our Heavenly Father is preparing us to faithfully steward one of the most sacred covenants He has established.
That is the purpose of this series. Before you focus on finding the right person, allow God to continue shaping you into the person He has called you to become. Whether marriage is part of His plan for your life or not, every lesson you learn while following Jesus Christ will strengthen your faith, deepen your relationship with Him, and prepare you for the future He has already planned according to His perfect Will.
"Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart's desires. Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
PSALM 37:4-5 (NLT)

Waiting Is Also Part of the Preparation

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of preparing for marriage because it often raises questions we cannot answer. We may wonder why God hasn't brought the right person into our lives, whether we have missed His Will, or if marriage will ever become part of our future. Those questions are real, but they do not have to become the focus of our hearts.
Waiting is not a season of inactivity. It is a season in which God continues to strengthen our faith, deepen our trust, and prepare us in ways we may not yet recognize. As we keep our eyes on Jesus Christ instead of the calendar, we learn that no season surrendered to Him is ever wasted. Whether marriage comes sooner, later, or not in the way we expected, God's purpose is always to draw us closer to Himself and continue the good work He has begun within us.
