TRANSFORMATION THROUGH CHRIST

A life that reflects Him

QUESTION 1

WHY DO I STILL STRUGGLE INTERNALLY IF I LOVE JESUS CHRIST?

Understanding The Difference Between Salvation And Soul Renewal

One of the biggest lies many believers quietly carry is the idea that if they truly loved Jesus Christ, they would no longer struggle internally.

So people sit in church smiling while privately battling fear, lust, addiction, anxiety, rage, shame, insecurity, depression, emotional heaviness, pornography, rejection, bitterness, toxic relationship cycles, self-hatred, hidden sin, mental torment, emotional instability, and patterns they keep begging God to take away.

Some worship publicly while falling apart privately.

Some know Scripture but still do not know how to deal with what keeps happening inside them.

Some genuinely love God but still find themselves reacting from anger, shutting down emotionally, sabotaging relationships, running back to unhealthy habits, numbing pain, overthinking constantly, or carrying internal exhaustion they cannot explain.

And because nobody talks honestly about this, many believers end up living condemned, confused, and ashamed.

They start asking themselves questions they are afraid to say out loud.

“Why am I still like this?”
“Why do I still struggle with this addiction?”
“Why do I keep going back to what God already delivered me from?”
“Why do I still feel broken in some areas?”
“Why do my reactions still look wounded?”
“Why does my soul still feel heavy if I belong to Jesus?”

A lot of people think salvation means every part of a person instantly becomes mature, healed, renewed, and emotionally whole overnight.

But that is not what Scripture teaches.

When we give our lives to Jesus Christ, our spirit is recreated through the power of the Holy Spirit. We become spiritually alive in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

That spiritual rebirth is real—so real that it changes not only our present life but our eternal destiny. Through it, we have received the gift of eternal life.

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

HEBREWS 4:15-16 (NLT)

When Old Training Meets New Life

Although the spirit is made new instantly, the soul still has to undergo renewal.

The mind still remembers trauma.
The emotions still carry wounds.
The flesh still pulls toward unhealthy things.
The heart still has areas that need surrender.
The thinking still needs to be retrained through truth.
The soul still has patterns shaped by pain, fear, rejection, pride, abandonment, sin, unhealthy environments, survival mode, and years of living outside of God’s wisdom.

Some people learned to survive by shutting down emotionally.
Some learned to survive through control.
Some through anger.
Some through isolation.
Some through addiction.
Some through lust.
Some through people pleasing.
Some through pretending they are okay when internally they are drowning.

Those patterns do not disappear simply because a person loves Jesus.

This is why soul renewal matters. Romans 12:2 (NLT) tells us, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” Notice that Scripture says transformation happens through renewed thinking.

God works from the inside out.

Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, He begins exposing what pain built within us. He uncovers what has been buried and confronts the lies people have built their identities around. He reveals unhealthy patterns, destructive agreements, and coping mechanisms that slowly became bondage. He begins uncovering what pain trained into the soul. He deals with pride, fear, insecurity, unforgiveness, emotional walls, bitterness, and the places where the soul learned to survive apart from His truth.

Some believers are fighting addictions while genuinely loving God. Some are battling secret lust while crying during worship. Some are struggling with anxiety while faithfully praying every day. Others are carrying father wounds, rejection, abandonment, church hurt, trauma, grief, insecurity, rage, and deep emotional pain that has shaped their lives for years.

This does not mean a believer does not love Jesus.
It means there are still places being transformed by Him. Places that need healing, renewal, deliverance, surrender, and truth.

Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.

1 TIMOTHY 6:12 (NLT)

The Fight Does Not Mean You Have Failed

Many people have spent years blaming themselves for struggles they never understood spiritually. But there is a difference between struggling and surrendering to darkness. There's a difference between being weary from the fight and laying down your weapons.

Conviction means the Holy Spirit is still working inside of you. The desire for healing, freedom, truth, and transformation is evidence that God is still drawing you deeper into alignment with Him.

Behavior modification alone cannot heal a wounded soul. Only Jesus Christ can truly restore what has been distorted internally. And healing is not pretending the struggle does not exist. Healing is bringing what is real into the light so the Holy Spirit can confront it with truth.

Some people have spent years rebuking demons while never confronting the lies they believe about themselves. Some have mastered church language while remaining emotionally fragmented internally. Some know how to perform spirituality while privately living exhausted, bound, angry, numb, addicted, fearful, or internally unstable. But Jesus did not die just to help us look saved externally. He came to restore us from the inside out.

This process can feel uncomfortable because God is not interested in helping us maintain brokenness more comfortably. He wants freedom. He wants truth. He wants healing. He wants the soul brought back into alignment with the life of Christ.

The goal is not pretending struggles do not exist.

The goal is allowing Jesus Christ to heal, renew, mature, and transform us through the power of the Holy Spirit. Philippians 1:6 (NLT) reminds us, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

That means God is still working on the places that still hurt.

Still renewing the places that still think wrongly.

Still healing the places that still react from pain.

Still confronting the places that learned survival instead of surrender.

Still restoring what life distorted.

Still teaching us how to stop living from what wounded us and start living from what Christ says is true.

This is not failure. And it’s not permission to stay bound.

But it is proof that transformation is a process led by the Holy Spirit through truth, surrender, healing, renewal, and daily yielding to Jesus Christ.

The fight itself is often evidence that God has not given up on you. Dead things do not fight. Numb things do not fight. Conviction fights. Faith fights. The Holy Spirit continues drawing us toward freedom even when the process feels slower than we want it to.

This is the ongoing work of spiritual renewal through Jesus Christ. ■

QUESTIONS THAT LEAD TO TRANSFORMATION

Every healing journey begins with honest questions. The Holy Spirit brings truth, wisdom, revelation, and understanding as we surrender the inward places of our lives to Jesus Christ.
